Polo

Canoe Polo is a fun, fast paced, team sport. It’s open to all members at Castle Canoe Club, no polo or kayaking experience necessary and all equipment is provided. If you want to play, just come over to the polo pitch and say hi.

What is Canoe Polo?

Canoe Polo is a game that tests your fitness, reaction time, teamwork and boat skills. Although relatively unknown, it’s an international sport played in 50 countries all over the world and is receiving increased press and television interest.

The aim of the game is to get the ball into the opposing team’s goal, which is suspended above the water. To do this the team must move the ball up the pitch, either by dribbling or throwing it. There are 5 players (plus subs) on each team. To score a goal a team will need to maneuver the ball past the other team’s chasers, defenders and goalie. Games are made up of two halves which are between 7 and 10 minutes long.

We often describe Canoe Polo as basketball on water to non-poloers, but the best way to understand is to come along and have a go!

Why play at Castle?

Castle is the biggest Canoe Polo club in North London. We train every Sunday, all year round, and every Tuesday in Summer. Anyone who is a member is welcome to join, even if you’ve never paddled before. Frequently you’ll find a mix of people on the polo pitch, some who just like to play socially or occasionally and some who train regularly. There are several Castle teams who play in local divisions and we compete in the Summer International tournaments. We also host two competitions a year for local clubs. We have excellent facilities, two full sized pitches and lovely warm showers for afterwards.

How do I get involved?

Just come over to pitch and introduce yourself. If you have any questions, drop us an email at info@castlecanoeclub.co.uk.
